Probationary faculty (Lecturers, Clinical Assistant Professors, and Assistant Professors) are appointed to one-year contracts that may be renewed annually.
The following schedule is used for reviewing and reappointing probationary faculty.
First Year
December 15: Dean makes reappointment recommendation for the second year to Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The faculty is informed of the recommendation in writing. Once the final decision is made on reappointment, faculty are informed in writing.
Second Year
September 15: Dean makes reappointment recommendation for the third year to Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The faculty is informed of the recommendation in writing. Once the final decision is made on reappointment, faculty are informed in writing.
Third and Subsequent Years
March 15: Dean makes reappointment recommendation for next year to Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The faculty is informed of the recommendation in writing. Once the final decision is made on reappointment, faculty are informed in writing.
This process ends once the promotion decision is reached.
