Apply as an Adult Student

We understand you may be managing family responsibilities and working all while pursuing your degree. We offer services to help you succeed in your studies, but more importantly, we have faculty who are approachable and willing to work with you.

Step-by-Step Guide for Adult Students

  • You must have graduated from an Indiana high school or comparable out-of-state institution or have taken the GED. Those with a GED score of 62 or higher may apply for unconditional admission.
  • Academic Honor or Core 40 diploma or at least 30 college preparatory high school courses.
  • You should rank in the upper half of your high school class.
  • Students who have been out of high school for three or more years are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores. (see admissions for high school students if you are less than three years out of High School.)
  • If you are a previous IU Kokomo student, update your information by filling out the online application as a returning student and schedule an appointment with the Office of Student Success and Advising at 765-455-9405.

If you do not meet the above criteria, don’t worry! You may be eligible for conditional admission. Please contact the Office of Admissions for more details.

Step 1 - Apply today! Complete and submit the university application for undergraduate admission. Be sure your application is complete! If you are a previous IU Kokomo student, update your information by filling out the online application as a returning student and schedule an appointment with the Office of Student Success and Advising at 765-455-9405.

Step 2 – Send your official high school transcript. Have your official high school transcript sent directly from your high school to the IU Kokomo Office of Admissions. If you're a GED recipient, send an official score report directly to our office. If you have taken any college courses at another institution, have them send us an official transcript. After receiving all your materials, we'll notify you within a week if you've been accepted or if further testing is needed.

Step 3 - Apply for financial aid. In the midst of applying for admission, you don't want to forget to apply for financial aid. All IU Kokomo scholarships will be awarded after March 1 and the State of Indiana priority receive date for the FAFSA is April 15. If you need assistance with financial aid, don’t hesitate to reach out the the Office of Financial Aid!

Step 4 -Create your IU Computing Account: It is super important to get started on setting up your IU computing account. You’ll use this information for a lot of your college career. Get started on setting up your IU computing account.

Step 5 - Meet your academic advisor. Over the course of your degree, you will want to get to know your academic advisor. Your advisor knows the ins and outs of your degree and will walk with you every step of the way! Meet with your academic advisor and schedule any necessary placement testing.

Step 6 - Attend New Student Orientation. Come see the campus, meet your new peers, get information on all kinds of campus resources, and services, and have a free lunch at New Student Orientation.
