Employers all over the state of Indiana are looking to hire IU students. Thanks to a partnership with Ascend Indiana, our students have the opportunity to be matched with job opportunities across the state based on their degrees and skill sets. When IU students are successful, the state of Indiana is successful. We need your help, connecting students to Ascend. It helps us be able to say how many of our students have landed a job before they've graduated by working with Ascend. Our mission at Ascend is that Indiana be a place of economic opportunity for all. Our job matching platform connects early and career talent to good and promising employment opportunities across the state, based on their skills and interests. IU Kokomo and our other higher education partners do an exceptional job of supporting students in preparing for life after post secondary education. But what is often lacking is that direct connection to the opportunities and the ability to articulate an individual's skills and how that aligns to what demand is looking for or what employers are looking for. We've got over 20,000 employers across the state, across all industries and sizes, and they're all hiring. As a regional campus, our resources are very small and so our office wears many different hats. And so having Ascend there to lean on with some of the employee relation types of positions that other campuses and larger campuses may have, it helps us then connect with other employers and get our students more connections. What I love about Ascend is that it fixes a problem on both sides. Too often, I think employers overlook the regional campuses, but I know that we have phenomenal students, and I think the employers agree too, when they have that chance to hire them, so Ascend helps to build that relationship. We are at Copper Mountain Technologies where I am a marketing coordinator. I was a first generation bachelor's degree recipient. Neither of my parents went to college. I knew that ultimately I would love to end up in the Indianapolis area, but I had no connections. No network. I can remember my first conversation with the representative from Ascend sitting at my parents kitchen table. I remember them specifically honing in on the Copper Mountain Technologies position as something they thought would be a good fit for me. We've connected over 3,000 individuals to internships, trainings, and jobs. Forty-nine percent of those individuals are from underrepresented backgrounds, 21st century scholars, students of color, Pell grant recipients, first generation college students those that often have higher barriers to entering the labor market, enabling these individuals to take jobs here in Indiana, stay in Indiana, build their lives and start their families here in Indiana. Really ensuring that we're creating a labor market here that's going to be sustainable over time. And it was a great opportunity because it can be overwhelming when you first start the job search, you don't really know where to begin. So Ascend was just a logical first step and it ended up leading to a great opportunity. Ascend is a middleman NGO, trusted by Indiana employers to help connect them to Indiana University students. When a student is connected with Ascend, they're given the opportunity to find a job here in the state. When our students are successful, the state is successful. To help connect a student to Ascend, go to the One.IU portal, search Ascend Network Connection, and click through. Find your Campus's form, choose the login with Google, and the student will enter the IU email address. Follow the prompts to complete.
