CTLA offers a variety of events and workshops to help enhance your instruction, course development and student learning experiences. If you cannot attend scheduled trainings and have between three to five people in your department who require training, an arrangement can be made for a separate workshop at an alternative time.
MERLOT* and Search Strategies for Online Materials
Looking for some new resources to enhance student learning in your course? MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching) provides descriptions and links to online learning resources including case studies, tutorials, animations, interactive multimedia, reference materials, quizzes/assessments, drills, and presentations suitable for higher education learning. Creative Commons, also introduced in this class, helps you find copyrighted media that come with some advance permissions for use. It is also suitable for faculty teaching fully-online courses, hybrids or those looking for supplementary online materials for classroom courses. This training is delivered in Canvas using web resources, is self-paced, and can start and end when convenient for your schedule. The class requires completing assignments using MERLOT and Creative Commons. Register anytime for the MERLOT class and you will receive the instructions to get started. Suitable for instructors.

This is a two week long course.

Online Course Strategies*
Experience an online class in Canvas from a student perspective when you take this four-week, asynchronous workshop to guide you through course development for an online course. It is also useful for faculty planning or revising hybrid courses. Participants will work on a specific course, selected by them, during the workshop, making course level decisions and working on developing one module, or short segment, of the course. Weekly workshop assignments are due. This workshop does not result in a fully-developed online course but gets you started. The workshop includes reading two books from the Jossey-Bass Guides to Online Teaching, which will be available as an ebook. Past participants have estimated the class taking them about 3-7 hours per week.
