Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to take the GRE before I apply?
The GRE is not required for admission to the program. However, if you feel like it would boost your overall application you are welcome to take the general test of the GRE. You are not required to or encouraged to take the psychology subject test of the GRE.
Do I have to have fifteen hours of psychology credit finished when I apply?
Those who have already completed that requirement are in a better position for full consideration of their application but you can apply if you are currently enrolled in the course(s) that would fulfill the fifteen-hour requirement.
Do I have to have a bachelor's degree in hand when I apply?
No, you can apply to the program while you are finishing a degree or the required psychology courses. If you are admitted to the program, your admission will be conditional upon successful completion of your degree or courses.
Will the program help me secure internship placements?
Yes, we have developed several community partnerships that we are finalizing as formal placement sites. However, if you would like to find your own placement site we can work with you on that.
When is the application deadline?
There is not a firm application deadline as we will review applications until all spots are filled but best consideration for those spots will be given to individuals who complete their applications by the end of March.
How is the program structured?
Sixty credit hours of full-time study for six semesters is the basic structure. The courses are split between online classes and face-to-face courses that you will take at Indiana University Kokomo. The split has been predetermined and on average you will have two face-to-face classes and two online classes each term except summer semesters which will be lighter.
Will I be able to become a licensed counselor after I complete this program?
Upon completion of the program, you will be ready to enter associate licensed mental health counselor status which is the precursor to full licensure. Once you complete the required post-degree clinical hours you will be eligible to become a fully licensed mental health counselor.
Where can I send my GRE scores and/or transcripts?
Transcripts and GRE scores should be sent to Rosalyn Davis, Ph.D. at 2300 S Washington Street, Main Building KO 211D, Kokomo, IN 46904.
When will I find out if I was admitted to the program or not?
We anticipate making the first wave of admissions in mid to late April but again will be reviewing and making admission decisions until all the spots are filled.
When will the next cohort start?
Our program begins new cohorts in the fall semester of even years. We do not admit any students in odd years and do not offer part-time enrollment. If you are graduating in an odd year, then you are poised to begin your application to begin in the next even year potentially. If you are graduating in even years (spring or summer) you would still apply for the fall cohort.
Who can I contact if I have more questions?
Please contact Rosalyn Davis, Ph.D. at her email address rosddavi@iu.edu and indicate that you are inquiring about the program.
