Transformative Research and Creativity
At IU Kokomo, we will benefit our region, state, and disciplines by disseminating the work of our faculty. Such dissemination includes adapting our work to make it accessible and relevant to external audiences.
Objectives:
- Facilitate collaborative research, scholarship, and creative activities by reallocating resources or leveraging external funding opportunities to create a new Center for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Work (CRSC).
Metrics:
- Majority of faculty will meet research expectations in 2023-2024 and continue an increased trend through subsequent years.
- Increase funding (by reallocating resources or leveraging external funding) for the Applied and Community-Based Research Center (ACRC) by 15% from the 2021-2024 baseline.
- Begin and continue to highlight and promote faculty research activities.
Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion is fundamental to the mission of IUK. As such, our scholarly enterprise will include research and creative activities that demonstrate our commitment to this aspect of our mission.
Objectives:
- Promote the development of research and scholarship that reflects the full diversity of IU Kokomo by integrating support and programming for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives into the new Center for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Work (CRSC).
Metrics:
- Establish the Center by August 2025. Increase the diversity of faculty performing research and scholarship, with the total number of projects performed increasing by 20% from baseline. Baseline to be established before the end of the 2024-2025 academic year.
- Increase number of center projects by four percent per academic year.
Students greatly benefit from engaging in research and creative activities, and where appropriate, being provided with opportunities to share their work with internal and external audiences. As such, IU Kokomo is committed to providing students with opportunities to engage in scholarly activities and disseminate their work.
Objectives:
- Incorporate support for undergraduate scholarly and creative activities within the CRSC.
- Collaborate with faculty committees to oversee undergraduate research and creative works funding.
- Collaborate with Advancement to raise funds for undergraduate scholarly work.
- Collaborate with Admissions to include guaranteed undergraduate scholarly and creative work funding for some admitted students.
- Collaborate with faculty to provide annual awards recognizing student scholarly and creative work.
Metrics:
- By 2030, number of undergraduate scholarly projects will increase 20% from 2025-2026 baseline.
- By 2030, number of undergraduate scholarly presentations/creative exhibitions will increase 20% from 2025-2026 baseline.
- By 2030, funding for undergraduate scholarly projects will increase 20% from 2025-2026 baseline.
