Sometimes it’s easier to talk to your peers about hard topics, rather than a professor or other authority figure. The Equity Ambassadors at Indiana University Kokomo’s Multicultural Center are prepared to have those challenging conversations with students on topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Equity Ambassadors generate and provide unique programming and events for the MCC and show their support for all programming sponsored by the MCC. Each Ambassador is responsible for developing at least one Lunch and Learn event a year, to support peer-to-peer learning and conversation.
Past topics include the racial disparities in health care, voter suppression, and the evolution of transgender identity in the United States.
Ambassadors also partner with faculty as Pedagogical Partners. In this program, one Ambassador and one faculty member engage in a semester-long partnership focusing on providing faculty with feedback on how they can integrate diversity, equity and inclusion practices into their teaching and course content.
Other programs from the Equity Ambassadors include participation in the development of the annual Equity Challenge, educational tables in the Kelley Student Center, and social gatherings celebrating national and international events and holidays.
