As a future teacher, you’re always looking for ways to expand your teaching toolkit. With the minors in education from Indiana University Kokomo, you’ll take courses that help you specialize your degree even further, making you more knowledgeable and more marketable to future employers. Students enrolled in the education course of study for K-6 are required to complete a minor to satisfy teacher licensure regulations. We currently offer four minors in education.
By completing this minor, you will have a better understanding of working to educate younger children. With courses ranging from Introduction to Early Childhood Education all the way to The Early Childhood Educator, you’ll cover all the foundations you need. Upon completion of this minor, you may be eligible for dual licensure in elementary education and early childhood education. With courses ranging from Introduction to Language and Learning Disorders all the way to Education of the Socially and Emotionally Disturbed, you’ll gain the solid understanding you need to help your students succeed.Upon completion of this minor, you may be eligible for dual licensure in elementary education and special education. Courses in this minor, which is part of the Elementary Education major, consists of courses focused on the unique teaching and learning needs of children and youth who are culturally and linguistically diverse and hands-on experience working with English language learnings in local school classrooms. Upon completion of the minor, you may be eligible for dual licensure in elementary education and English learner.
This minor consists of courses and school-based field placements in music history and music teaching methods in both vocal and instrumental areas. This minor can be completed as part of the Elementary Education major, offering the ability to earn both the elementary education generalist teaching license as well as the K-6 Fine Arts: Instrumental and General Music or Fine Arts: Vocal and General Music teaching license.
