Dr. Joe Keener earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts from Winthrop University in South Carolina. In 2004, he was awarded a Ph.D. from The University of Alabama in Literature with a specialty in Shakespeare and American Southern Literature. His early work was in gender theory, and he published his book, Shakespeare and Masculinity in Southern Fiction: Faulkner, Simms, Page, and Dixon with Palgrave Macmillan in 2008. Dr. Keener's current research examines the connection between Shakespeare, Evolution, and Drama, and he has published journal articles on this interdisciplinary reading of Shakespeare. His scholarship is moving toward adding ethics to this already varied field. He is a member of The Shakespeare Association of America and The Modern Language Association. He teaches numerous classes on Shakespeare, American Southern Literature, Critical Theory, Literatures in English I and II, Several Film Classes, and Kurt Vonnegut. Dr. Keener is also the Director of The Honors Program at Indiana University Kokomo, head of the writing submissions board for the student journal publication From The Well House, and on the faculty of the Masters of Arts and Liberal Studies program.
