English Literature

The literature minor at IU Kokomo is designed for students who enjoy reading and analyzing great works of literature in the form of novels, poetry, film, and drama. The critical thinking and analytical skills learned and homed in this minor prepare students for a variety of career fields, and readies to participate in a diverse and complex world as global citizens and innovative problem-solvers.

Creative Writing

This minor is for students who are interested in learning the craft of creative writing. This minor includes a variety of courses to practice writing in a preferred genre or to venture outside one’s comfort zone and develop the writing and creative skills that will complement any primary field of study. Students engage in both the critical analysis and creative practice of writing that hone their self-expression, artistic technique, and modes of communication.

Professional Writing

This minor is for students who want to spend time working on the written communication skills that will be utilized in their future professional lives. Students learn how to write and report complex information in ways that are understandable to diverse audiences. The professional writing minor provides students with the skills necessary to write effectively for the workplace, one of the keys to success in today’s digital workplace, and for advanced study in graduate and professional school.

Film Studies

This minor provides a strong foundation for students interested in film analysis, the history of film, theoretical and critical approaches to film, mass communication, and film production. The film minor offers the study of films through multiple modes, allowing students to write films, write about films, and study films from several different critical points of view and an array of genres. Students will learn how to "read" film and gain greater insight into how films are created and how they can become the object of academic study.
