During your time as a student in the School of Nursing, you’ll gain experiences that prepare you to hit the ground running from day one. From the simulation lab to one-on-one work with faculty to real-world experience, you’ll feel prepared when you graduate. As a nursing student, you’ll often have more than one clinical course each semester. In your final semester in the program, you’ll participate in a capstone project where you’ll go out into the world in a health care setting and work side-by-side with an RN. It’s not uncommon for students to find their first job in nursing at the facility where they complete their capstone experience.
While working in the health care field with your RN license can be extremely fulfilling and make for an excellent career, the field of nursing also includes a wide variety of continuing education options. Nurses are involved in nearly all aspects of patient care and can work as generalists or obtain specialty certifications or advanced degrees. At IU Kokomo, we offer an opportunity to grow with our various tracks in the Master of Science in Nursing degree. You can obtain an MSN with a focus on administration, education, or as a family nurse practitioner.
Learning how to hit the job market upon graduation is an important part of your time as a student. The Career Center offers excellent assistance on resume critiques, cover letters, and interview preparation.
