Materials checked out on your library card are your responsibility. If an item is overdue or not returned, you may need to pay fines or fees.
Overdue Items
The due dates of all checked out items are listed on My Account in IUCAT. Items can be renewed through My Account, in person, or over the phone. To renew by phone, supply your Indiana University ID or INRE card number, name, address, and item information (e.g. barcode number, title, etc.).
Overdue notices are mailed or emailed to the borrower. Email is the official means of communication for Indiana University affiliated users.
Fines
Loan periods and the fine schedule are available online and in print at the Circulation desk. When you return an item, a Student Assistant at the desk can tell you if there are any fines on the item.
Non-returned items
Items that are over 60 days past due are marked with a "missing" status and are billed to the borrower for replacement.
Fees
The following replacement fees will be charged for each item that is more than 60 days past due:
- A replacement fee, which normally ranges between $75.00 to $110.00; and
- A processing fee of $10.50
If overdue materials are returned, the charges will be reversed.
Barred borrowing privileges
Borrowing privileges can be barred-meaning you are unable to check out or renew items-on accounts which:
- Have accrued fines of $100 or more.
- Have overdue recalled items.
- Have very overdue Interlibrary Loaned materials.
- Have overdue fines associated with an INRE account in excess of $5.00.
Patrons should contact the Circulation desk to find out why an account may be barred.
