Record of Experiential and Applied Learning (REAL)
What is the REAL?
The IU Kokomo Record of Experiential and Applied Learning (REAL) is an official reflection of student learning outside of the course/classroom setting. IU Kokomo validates all achievements presented on this record. Using an established rubric and a rigorous approval process, IU Kokomo faculty validate each learning experience and supervising faculty attest to each student's meaningful engagement in the experience.
What is the purpose of the REAL?
The purpose of the REAL is to provide students, future employers, graduate/professional programs and other organizations with an official record that specifies the types of experiential and applied learning activities that students have completed in both curricular (i.e., coursework and academic opportunities) and extra-curricular (i.e., student life activities, trips, workshops, etc.) contexts. With the verified information on the REAL, students can more accurately showcase the skills and experiences they have gained and recipients can more readily assess the student’s strengths.
