Using the General Education cycle and any other external program review cycles, each program will plan each year's assessment process. Plans are submitted in 5 year increments.
Mapping outcomes to courses will help programs determine where to focus assessment efforts.
Data is focused student aggregated responses on targeted criteria aligned to outcomes in the form of % met, mean scores, etc. Data is collected every academic year.
A crucial element of assessment is reflecting on the data, by discussing the analyzed results with all stakeholders. Reflection is conducted every Fall semester.
Each program brainstorms innovations for improvement based upon the reflection and discussion of the data.
Reports including plans, findings and actions are submitted by January 15 of each year. Reports include data from the previous academic year or previous calendar year. For example: Data is collected academic year 2015-2016 or calendar year 2015. Reflection occurs Fall 2016, report is due January 15, 2017.
The Assistant Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs for Faculty Development and Campus Assessment consults with faculty to support planning and implementing program-level assessments and general education assessments.
The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CTLA) consults with faculty to support planning and implementing both summative and formative course-level assessment. Summative refers to grading purposes. Formative refers to informally self-monitoring faculty effectiveness in teaching by assessing when students are learning. It usually uses non-graded and anonymous indicators. Please contact CTLA with questions or to schedule a consultation.
Institutional Research handles institutional level data for assessment and administers the campus Survey Policy.
