Chancellor's Diversity Excellence Award
The Chancellor's Diversity Excellence Award is awarded for endeavors that promote diversity at Indiana University Kokomo. Support for diversity, which includes aspects such as ethnicity, age, gender, socioeconomic status, disability status, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, and veteran status, is a top goal for IU Kokomo.
A plaque and $1,000.00 cash prize will be awarded for programs or activities that:
- Develop new ways to increase Academic Excellence and Student Success among diverse students.
- Attract, support, and retain diverse students, faculty, and staff.
- Enhance connections and Build Relationships with diverse communities that facilitate educational attainment.
- Transform the Region by preparing students to compete in a global economy.
The Diversity Committee encourages nominations of individuals/groups from all areas of the university. Eligible individuals/groups include faculty, staff, deans, chairs, senior administrators, teams, and departments/offices. A call for nominations will be sent to the campus community in January each year, with a deadline for submissions set in February. Nominations should be submitted to Sarah Sarber in the Chancellor's Office by the established deadline.
Self-nominations are welcomed; however, you may nominate only one person or group. Persons or groups should be nominated for efforts that address cultural and/or ethnic diversity, socioeconomic status, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability status, national origin or prior military service.
Nominations should be supported by evidence consistent with the above goals, objectives, and diversity statement. Nominations should also detail the extent to which the nominee has helped promote diversity at IU Kokomo. Nominees will be notified by the Chair of the Campus Diversity Committee and will have until the established deadline to submit their evidence or portfolio electronically. Persons nominated each year may be reconsidered the following year if the evidence or portfolio is made current and accurate by the submission deadline.
The Campus Diversity Committee will make the selection of the recipient of this award. If a member of the Campus Diversity Committee is nominated for the award s/he will not be part of the selection committee that year. Feel free to address questions to any of the committee members.
The Campus Diversity Committee will use the following sheet as a guide for ranking candidates for this award. It is understood that no one candidate is likely to be excellent in every category. Accordingly, candidates are encouraged to organize their evidence and support conclusions made about their contributions by focusing on any 3-5 of the following areas/categories. Narratives should be limited to 8 (12 point font, double-spaced) pages.
