Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Indiana University Kokomo is committed to increasing our campus’s accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusivity. Making our campus welcoming to all people—whether faculty, staff, or students—is one of our primary goals. IU Kokomo’s Faculty Senate codified the campus’s obligation to promote diversity and with its Commitment to Diversity statement:

The campus community demonstrates its commitment to diversity by providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that promotes integrity and respect among all members of the campus community and by valuing shared governance and open, civil discourse.

With this commitment in mind, IU Kokomo requires that faculty members carry out the following three activities:

  1. Engage in DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) training every calendar year for a minimum of two hours in total (e.g., this may comprise a single two-hour presentation, or two or more shorter sessions).
  2. Include a short narrative statement (no more than two pages) in the supplemental materials section of their faculty annual reports (FARs) to describe those efforts.
  3. Pursue a broad range of available DEI training topics; the objective over the long term should be to seek breadth of knowledge with respect to potential topics and issues pertaining to DEI.
